How to have iMovie and Final Cut recognize your Android .3gp video file

My Samsung Galaxy S saves 720p video as a .3gp video file.

There’s no need to convert, transcode, or do anything to this video off of your Android phone to have it work nicely with iMovie or other OS X software.

While Quicktime and other software on OS X like VLC can just play this file, when you go to import it to iMovie, it complains of an unrecognized format.

To have your Apple video software easily recognize this video, simply rename the file extension to .mov.

You can now import your video into iMovie or Final Cut.
