If you have little kids at home, or need to setup content filtering for schools, OpenDNS is free and works great. I’ll show you how it works!
First, change the DNS servers in your router to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
Next, go to opendns.com and create a free account. Once inside your account, you will need to add your public IP address to manage that network.
You can then set various levels of content filtering, block or allow specific sites, or other custom settings.
I have two little kids at home (ages 2 and 4) and I set custom settings to block various things I do not want them to see.
OpenDNS content filtering also blocks access via ip address. If you try to visit the IP address of a restricted site, you will see the same restricted message.
OpenDNS also offers malware protection and other security settings which are beneficial.
