How do I make OpenOffice.org load faster?

One main adjustment you can do to make OpenOffice.org start much faster is to disable Java.

To do this, click on Tools > Options

Then find Java along the left hand side.

UN-check ‘Use a Java runtime environment’ and click OK.

Restart OpenOffice.org and enjoy the speed!

Why does it have java anyway?

A few obsecure things depend on Java. See this page for more details. You can always turn Java back on in case you happen to need it.
